In a fast paced society, it is still an issue in some parts of the country that not all children have access to education, especially girl children. This is because girls have been seen as humans who belong to the house, kitchen, babies’ factory or the other room as tools for sexual satisfaction or fulfillment of sexual fantasy.

Most times, girls like adolescents have had to drop out of school to get married or because they were pregnant hence couldn’t continue their studies which has led to lost dreams, hope and aspirations. Cases like this have led women to develop a low self-esteem, lack of confidence and lack of self-worth.

Educating a girl child is the right thing to do for humanity. And an educated girl child can only grow through a literate woman who has a greater chance of breaking the cycle of social vices by passing good knowledge to her daughter. Girl child education is not just limited to a western or religious education but a life orientation. Societies, communities, and countries prosper when girls are educated.

To this regard, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child both had a meeting and established Girl’s Child Education as a Human Right. These establishments have been able to make substantial progress towards gender equality in education.

Some of the importance of Girl child education includes:

It aims at developing the skill and knowledge of girls and women regardless of castes, backgrounds and race. The education includes places like schools, colleges, health education, professional, technical, and vocational education, etc.

It offers girls the necessary skills and information needed to excel in a chosen career in future such as teaching, architecture, medicine, computer science, law and pharmacy, among other lucrative and noble professions. Girls having access to education gives us the opportunity to right the wrongs in our society.

Girl child education helps decrease the prevalence of early marriage, ensure equal opportunities for education, and foster the development of digital technology literacy.

It can build and enhance lost self-confidence, acquire the skills to make independent judgments, broaden their horizons, and develop effective expression skills.

Girl child education empowers girls by providing them with knowledge, skills, and confidence. It helps them develop a sense of self-worth, independence, and the ability to make decisions about their lives. Education promotes tolerance, understanding, and social cohesion, laying the foundation for peaceful and stable societies. By educating girls, communities can mitigate the risk of conflict and extremism, as educated individuals are less vulnerable to manipulation and radicalization.

Educated girl children play a crucial role in building stronger and more resilient families and communities. They are more likely to invest in their children’s education, leading to intergenerational benefits.

Every girl child has the inherent right to education, as enshrined in international human rights instruments such as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Access to education not only fulfills this right but also upholds the inherent dignity and worth of every individual. Girl child education is not just a moral imperative; it is a strategic investment with far-reaching benefits for individuals, communities, and nations. By prioritizing and investing in the education of girls, societies can unlock their full potential and pave the way for a more equitable, prosperous, and sustainable future for all.
